How to destroy a Card

This is harder than you might think these are incredibly robust and actually with reasonable care and handling will last a long time.  I have subpages for liquids, temperature, shock and dropping.

Here are some tips for reasonable care.

Dont touch the contacts on the back of the card.

The oil on your fingers can cause corrosion.

You could release static electricity and fry the card.

When handling cards try to work over a table just in case you drop them.  I will admit to changing them in a field and dropping one in a puddle; after cleaning it was fine but was hard to find.  You dont want to drop one much farther than ten feet.

Never force a card into a slot.  They should go in with very little force.  If its going hard check the slot to make sure its clear you can usually blow out lint or dirt that may have gotten in there.  If its a new device to you try flipping the card over they are keyed and wont go in upside down.

Ive seen cards forced into devices and incredibly the device usually loses. The cards were fine but the crd slots were sloppy or destroyed. in many cases the device had to be taken apart to get the card back.

Wipe your cards off with a soft cloth every once in awhile to keep them clean.  Dont use any harsh cleaners on them.  Any dirt on them will go into your devices eventually.
