Can a magnet or Xray machine damage the card or Data on it ?
SD cards are transistor based devices and should NOT be damaged by Magnets or Xrays.
I keep hearing this one and feel that it is a leftover from the days of film and floppy discs.
Those devices were chemical or magnetic and can be harmed by magnets and Xray.
That being said its not a theory I test out, mainly because I'm just used to keeping my media away from these fields.
Many of these cards have survive the trip thru baggage check with the data intact.
I dont check them in baggage and prefer to carry them on.
Please note a big enough magnetic field can damage the card but one that large could be harmfull to people as well and would be marked. Basically dont go thru an MRI with one. The same is true of Xray from what Ive read if you arent getting a burn from the energy ; your card should be safe.
