This is simply the company that originally brought the card to market.

Some common manufacturers are Kingston, Sandisk, Transend, PNY, Centon and Dane Electronics.

Some device manufacturers will also have these cards branded with their logo. I see this most often with cell phone makers or service providers.

There are also generic or unbranded cards out there.
The main reason to look into the manufacturer of the card is the warantee. The warantees vary from "As Sold" to "Lifetime". The warantees also may cover different things so its worth checking out.
Please note that just because a card is branded with the same name as your device; that does NOT mean that it will fit or work in your device. You still need to check the other specs.
